School Closings

For those of you wondering how I decide to close or delay school during the year. First, I have to take into account the families outside the Greenville/Washington area. I rely on information from staff living in the Washington area, my observations from driving on side roads from Greenville to Washington, and news reports from surrounding counties.

This morning there were side roads still closed as well as Hwy. 33 closing this morning from Greenville to Chocowinity. I was also receiving updates from staff in Washington, Washington law enforcement, and media reports. There were still roads in and around the Washington area closed, along with reports of creeks and small rivers beginning to rise and cover roads.

With the Lounge Around bus traveling from Greenville, and several families coming from surrounding counties, the decision to delay or close school must be made in a timely manner. The overall goal is to ensure the safety of the staff and families traveling to and getting home from school. I will be glad to answer questions you have concerning how I decide to delay or close school. Have a great weekend.

Thank you,
Steve Jones

Mr. Jones,

I appreciate everything that you do for our kids. I think you have a very difficult job and you handle it with grace (and always best-dressed).

Thank you!

Thank you for considering safety! We were extremely relieved to see school cancelled this morning given all the media reports and our concern about standing water on the roads.

Thanks!
